July 11, 2011—Nearly 60 SKIP kids donated drawings for a special art exhibit at SKIP's recent Friendraiser last May. All art was displayed in frames in an exhibit area and offered for sale; 100% of the funds raised went directly to getting kids off SKIP’s waiting list. The art generated $850 in donations.
In honor of SKIP’s new location overlooking the Hudson River in New York City, the kids chose something you might see on the Hudson as the subject of their artwork. We received beautiful drawings of bridges, a tug boats, sailboats, water taxis, buildings, sunsets, barges, a helicopter, birds over the river, the Statue of Liberty and even a seal.
Each SKIP artist who contributed a drawing received a pillow made by the Crossroads 4 Girls Scouts of Staten Island, rounding out a very gratifying kids-helping-kids circle of goodwill.
We will be featuring more artwork by SKIP kids on the website in the coming months in a special section devoted to their talents. Keep an eye out. If you have signed up to receive SKIP’s newsletter, debuting later this summer, you will receive a notice when the artwork is up.
