Thank you to everyone who made it to the 1115 Waiver meeting with OPWDD Commissioner Courtney Burke and Deputy Commissioner Jim Moran this past Wed., Jan. 18 at SKIP's offices.
Nearly 250 family members attended in a tremendous showing of concern over the proposed changes. It was a powerful first step toward helping OPWDD understand what's important to families, the complexities of service delivery for our part of this population and just how critical it is to get it right as they continue to shape the 1115 Waiver!
Great questions were raised. You made them aware of a number of things they had not yet considered. Many questions were left unanswered due to time constraints. But, to repeat, this was just a first step and we must continue to make OPWDD aware of our concerns and the realities that must be factored in as they proceed with developing the Waiver.
We hope to post a video of the entire meeting on our website within the next few days. We will also be posting a written summary of meeting specifics within the next week. In addition, we will follow up with next steps and continue to keep you apprised of new developments as we learn about them. For now, please submit any questions you have or didn’t get to ask the at the meeting by sending them to skip.communication@skipofny.org. We will send them to OPWDD then provide answers as we get them …through email blasts and/or by posting the answers on this website.
Whether you got to the meeting or not, thank you to everyone for taking time to learn about the 1115 Waiver along with its potential consequences. Coming together is the best chance we have to shape these changes in the most positive way possible.
